Five Issues Faced by Distance Learning Students
Introduction
Learners throughout the globe have adopted an e-learning strategy, which has been adapted
to meet the increasing learning needs and promote adaptation to the dynamic education field,
which necessitates the use of technology. However, the implementation and usage of e-learning
opportunities have been marred by various difficulties that make it difficult for learners to obtain
adequate and efficient learning. This paper discusses some of the challenges of e-learning,
including technological issues, isolation issues, self-motivation issues, "not-knowing-the-
procedures" issues and student support issues.
Technological Issues
Many technological issues affect e-learning, including lack of, or instability in network
connection. This, among other technical problems such as device failure, slow loading speed or
slow internet and inadequate or limited access to the internet, is a significant challenge for e-
learners, especially in rural areas or areas with limited internet access, such as in developing
countries (Kibuku et al., 2020). Another technological issue that could occur includes navigation
and user errors, such as learning account difficulty, and login errors, such as forgotten login
credentials.
Some learners may also have challenges navigating the learning interface, which affects
their interaction with courses, course materials, tutors, and other learners within the platform.
Another technological issue is security, which is among the primary challenges for online learning
(Milakovich & Wise, 2019). Some prevalent security issues include platform failure and recovery,
intrusion, data corruption, disruption of services, and data theft, among other cybersecurity issues.
Isolation Issues
