SURNAME & INITIALS :PETRUS OK
MODULE CODE :HISV 211 ASSIGNMENT 2
STUDENT NUMBER :45305889
DUE DATE :14 MARCH 2025
, DEAR DIARY July 12,1785
(DATED BACK TO 17th CENTURY)
(Slaves)
I have lost count on the days. Having to think that I once had laughter with my family
sitting outside by the fire with granny telling us old stories pains my heart because now
it has turned into a memory. All of it was gone, vanished in to thin air. What has befallen
us?. What kind of misfortune was that?
Everyday i did smell the air full of death drawing towards me looking at the faces of my
fellow captives. Having no choice but to obey our masters without even understanding
their language. “Maak gou” were the words we used to hear when we were ploughing.
At this point I knew that I am already an object. The pains in my body pierced like a
knife through my skin.
I yearned for the love of my own mother. Being a property was not a joke at all. Yes, we
were sold and all I wanted was to return to my motherland. Back to all the laughter I
used to and the love. All we wanted was to be free from being owned.
