intolerance of optional variability in language. SLIs are characterized by dominant belief that
there is only one correct way of speaking; that of the Standard Language. When there are two
or more variants of some word or construction, only the Standard Language variant is viewed as
correct. SLI leads to a general intolerance towards linguistic variation and non-standard varieties
in particular, are elevated negatively.



Prescriptivism - ANS ✔✔Prescriptivism is an approach to language which views certain forms of
language be more correct than others. These correct forms are established as the norm which
should be emulated. These forms are seen as more correct based on logic and their existence in
classical or older forms of a language. Prescriptivists place emphasis on following artificial
language rules and are often intolerant of language innovation.



Sociolinguistics - ANS ✔✔Sociolinguistics is the study of language in relation to social factors
and the structure of society. Sociolinguistics focuses on language variation as influenced by the
social attributes of speakers in many ways (as speakers of different backgrounds use language
