● Preventable injuries
○ Unintentional injuries represent one of the major preventable death
○ These can include:
■ Home and workplace injuries
■ Motorcycle and automobile injuries: largest contributor
■ Seat belts
■ Reduce speeds
○ Adolescents are vulnerable to being injured while playing sports
○ In 2016, 17210 Canadians died as a result of injured
○ International comparison of injury deaths (mortality rates) in 11 developed
countries (1998)
■ Canada had the 5th lowest death rate for all injuries
■ The 7th lowest rate for suicide
○ The economic burden of unintentional is estimated to be greater than 26.8
billion per year in canada (2010)

○ Clinical breast exam (CBE)- barriers
○ Mammogram
● Prostate cancer screening
● Colorectal cancer screening

● Includes aerobic (biking, swimming) and not
isokinetic (weightlifting) exercise
