1. Within the preceding 6 CAL MONTHS, logged at least 6 INSTRUMENT PROCEDURES,
HOLDING Procedures, INTERCEPTING AND TRACKING.

- Preceding 90 days completed 3 landings & T/O
- Preceding 90 days completed 3 Full stop landing & T/O

- 6 month grace period with safety pilot
- After grace period, must complete Proficiency check

2. Posses a PPL in the same Category and Class
3. If under IFR, must also be IFR rated

within a 5 SM radius from the center of the airports runway complex during a 24-hr period.

-What is an Aviation Area Forecast? - -forecast of VMC, clouds, and general weather
conditions over an area the size of several states. FAs are issued 3 times a day for each of
the 6 areas within the US. Valid for 18 hours.

-What is included in an Area Forecast? - -1. Synopsis- brief discussion of the weather
affecting the FA during the 18 hr valid period.

low-level wind shear. A convective SIGMET applies to all categories of aircraft. The forecast
is valid for up to 2 hours

-What would cause a convective SIGMET to be issued? - -SEAL (Severe, Embedded, Area,
Line)
1.Severe Thunderstorm-
- Surface winds greater than or equal to 50 knots
-Hail greater then 3/4 in diameter
- Tornadoes
2. Embedded thunderstorms
3. Line of thunderstorms
4. Thunderstorms producing heavy Precip that affects 40% of an area of atleast 3,000 miles

-What is an AIRMET? - -Weather advisory issued for less severe conditions then a SIGMET.
They are issued ever 6 hours.

-What are the types of AIRMETs? - -Sierra- IFR conditions and/or mountain obscuration
Tango- Moderator turbulence, and/or sustained winds of 30 kts or >
Zulu- Moderate icing

-What is a winds and temps aloft forecast? - -computer prepared forecasts of wind
direction, speed, and air temperature at specified altitudes for specified locations and
times. They are produced 4 times daily. They are not issued within 1,500 ft of the locations
elevation.

-Are the winds of a "FB" true or magnetic? - -True north

-What is a surface analysis chart? - -A surface analysis chart is published every 3 hours. It
provides the location of pressure systems and fronts. It also provides with winds,
temperatures and dew point temperatures at the time of being produced.

-What is a weather depiction chart? - -A computer generated chart made from METAR
reports. It is created every 4 hours and is only valid for the time produced.

-What is LIFR? - -Low IFR- cielings less than 500 feet and/or vis less than 1 mi
