Question 2

1.1 Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses because of its motion. Any moving
object—from a rolling ball to flowing water—has kinetic energy proportional to its mass
and the square of its velocity.

1.2 Energy is transferred in an ecosystem through food chains and food webs.
Producers (plants) convert sunlight into chemical energy via photosynthesis. Herbivores
consume plants, transferring that energy to the primary consumer level. Carnivores and
decomposers then transfer energy further, with some energy lost as heat at each step.

1.3 The main purpose of photosynthesis in plants is to convert light energy, carbon
dioxide, and water into glucose (chemical energy) and oxygen. This process stores
energy in a usable form to fuel plant growth and supply energy to consumers.

1.4 Cellular respiration is the metabolic process by which cells break down glucose and
oxygen to release usable energy in the form of ATP, producing carbon dioxide and
water as byproducts.
