Question 1
1.1 Integrated use of international transport modes
AgriSmart uses multiple transport modes in a deliberately integrated way so each mode
plays to its strengths and the company’s customer promises are met. Below is a
description of the multimodal flows and why they are used in each export lane.
• Gauteng → Port of Durban → Vietnam (deep-sea + air where required)
• Primary flow: road (Gauteng → Durban) → deep-sea shipping (Durban →
Vietnamese port) for bulky irrigation systems and solar machinery. Sea freight is
used for economy and capacity.
• Exception: air freight for the company’s sensitive sensor components when fast
transit and minimal exposure to humidity/mechanical shock are required. Air
freight is used selectively (high value / time-critical SKU) while bulk / less time-
sensitive items travel by sea.
