Abstract
Shooter bias, een fenomeen binnen de sociale en cognitieve psychologie, verwijst naar de

neiging van politieagenten om in snelle dreigingsinschattingen ongewapende zwarte personen

snellers en vaker te beschieten dan witte personen. Dit onderzoek onderzocht de

aanwezigheid van shooter bias onder Nederlandse psychologie studenten. In een

experimentele studie met 472 studenten (gemiddelde leeftijd = 19,64 jaar) werd een

reactietijdtaak uitgevoerd waarin participant onder tijdsdruk moesten beslissen of een witte of

zwarte acteur gewapend was of niet. De resultaten toonden geen significant verschil in

reactietijd tussen zwarte en witte acteurs, ongeacht wapenbezit. Echter werden er wel

significante verschillen gevonden in onderscheidingsvermogen en criteriumscores, waarbij

een grotere neiging werd waargenomen om op zwarte acteurs te schieten. Deze bevindingen

suggereren dat impliciete biases kunnen doorwerken, zelfs in een groep met expliciete kennis

over stereotypering. Toekomstig onderzoek zou zich moeten richten op culturele en

contextuele factoren die bijdragen aan shooter bias in Nederland, alsmede interventies ter

bewustwording en reductie van impliciete discriminatie.
