Why was Iota Kappa founded? - CORRECT ANSWER Prior to chartering the Iota Kappa
Chapter at ASU, these dynamic, courageous and strong-willed college women faced many
avenues of racism, prejudice and racial injustices. They fought for equality and civil rights by
boycotting and organizing a sit-in at the Arizona State University-Brigham Young University
football game. The reason for this boycott/sit-in was to express the ASU African-American
student's feelings towards the Brigham Young Administration. At this time, Brigham Young
only allowed African-American student athletes to enroll into their University. By fighting
against this racial injustice, these nine women opened the eyes of Arizona State University by
showing what Delta Sigma Theta stands for nationally and how future Iota Kappa members will
deal with any acts of injustice on the campus of Arizona State University.
