1.2
One personal reason dor not repoting crime wold be out of fear. The victim of the crime such as in
the case of Mr jones may feel fearnt from his wife as of tht fact that mrs jones lives with him, his fear
was to report he would fear the reprisals of dpoing so, such as the beatings he receives off of mrs
jones getting worse as a result as coming out as a victim. As wella sthis, mr jonesmay fear the fact
he loses his social group that he shares with mrs jones ads they are married abd therfore is left
alone. And well as this, he may gear other consequences such as loss of a home which share with
mrs jones. Statistically speaking, more than 1/5 (58.3%) of victims fo crime state that fear stopped
them from reporting.
A secondary personal reason would be Shame. Relating to Stephen, he may feel that the shame of
being homeless would stop him from reporting himself into somewhere lieka youth hostel due to
hius embarrassing situation. Shame is a large reason as for why many victims dot come out as
victims as they are sacrd og the embarasement they may face from another individual who
potentially may not have been victims as of th facst that they feelembarassed abd shamefullf un
unknowingly getting dscamed under used. Ladt year in 2023, 1 in 10 rapes and sexual crimes didn’t
reportthemselves in a vict as a they felt embarassment and shame.
A social and cultural readon for not reporcing a crime would be due to lack of knowledge. For many
cases of fraud and more technological crimes, the victim any not ecven be aware what has
happened to the crime is a crime or any not ecven know thay ar the victim to a crime. GTo put this
into reality, some cirmes such as vagrancy don’t appear to be a crime,s o therefore people don’t
report to the police and the police begun to no longer prioritise the crime itself. As wella sthis, lack
of knowledge and legal las may make people like Mr jones remain silent on his [ceronal issue s he
isnt aware of the las implaced for victims like him.
Another social and cultural reason would be comlplexity of the crime. As you can notfity wthin the
brief, domesuc abuse cases can be complex, due ot the fact that the police need ot retain lage
amount of evidence thatthis abuse is tak9ing place as well as for other cirme such as white
collarcrimes which are usually well hidden. As wella s this, relating back to whitr collar crimes, as a
lot of victims of white colar crimes aren’t actually aware they ar a victim the crime will carry on
without being covered as it is well embedded and hidden as wella s the developmentsoin in social
media and technology helping keepen crimseout of sight and out of concern of the police.

When crimes fal to be reported theinmpact this can play into society can pose as both positbve and
negatuive, as of a fact, some occurnaces of unrecoreded crimeds can leave leeway to vmore vital
and out of hand criems to becoe prioritised by thse of authorities such ss the police.
