This piece of work covers all of the criteria for P2 in Public Services Unit 27: Social Welfare Services. I have achieved a distinction in this unit by Pearsons Edexcel in 2020 and achieved a D*D*D* in the second year. I hope this helps!

Family Reunion- Refugee Action believes that refugees should be able to be united with close family
members. The Refugee family reunion is a process which allows families to be united and it boosts
refugee's ability to successfully integrate and build their own independent lives in the UK. Refugees
have a legal right, under UK and international law, to bring their families to this country.

A refugee is someone who has been recognised under the 1951 Convention relating to the status
of refugees to be a refugee. A refugee family reunion is the process by which adult refugees based in
the UK reunite their family members who remain in their country of origin or who currently reside in
third countries.

The following are universal human rights that are most relevant to refugees. For example, the right
to freedom from torture or degrading treatment, the right to life, liberty, security and freedom from
discrimination.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that everyone has the right to seek and
enjoy asylum from persecution in other countries. The 1951 UN Refugee Convention, which
protects refugees from being returned to countries where they risk being persecuted. An asylum
seeker is someone seeking international protection.

Mental health act 2007- The mental health act 2007 in the law which explains the rights of people
with mental disorders and how they can be treated. If people are detained or sectioned it explains
their rights they have and what health care professions can and can’t do. Normally people with
mental disorders volunteer to be treated or agree to be treated. However, in some extreme
circumstances people need to be detained without their agreement as they may be a harm to
themselves or others. The act that covers this is the mental health act.

The law says when you can be given treatment even if you do not want it, when you can be taken
into hospital even if you do not want to what your rights are and how your rights are
protected. The people who treat you should listen to your views about your care and
treatment, what you said about your care and treatment in the past, what some other people think
about your care and treatment. They should also listen to your carers or named person (someone
you can choose to look out for you if you have to have treatment. They help decide about your care
and treatment). Also the people who give you the treatment should inform you of your care and
treatment and any choices you can make. They should explain what they think will work best for you
and inform you of any help which you or your carer can get. They must make sure that they know as
much as possible about you and your life and make sure you are treated as well as possible finally
they need to ensure If you have to be held for treatment it is for the shortest time needed and most
importantly, you have care as long as you need it. All people involved need to follow the laws of the
mental health act to ensure an effective treatment plan is made and understood by all involved.

Children act 1989 and 2004- The children act means that children and young people are looked after
and their welfare comes first. It also means that everyone has a responsibility of looking after
children who need help to improve their lives and give them a better chance of a good life with the
support they need.
