Proposed Nursing Service Idea
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes mental health as our
“emotional, psychological, and social well-being”(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2023). A person’s mental health status impacts their physical health and likewise, physical health
impacts mental health. When an individual focuses on improving their physical or mental health,
there is great potential for concurrent improvement. The proposed nursing-led service line is a
mental health clinic and wellness center. The purpose of the service line is to provide
comprehensive health services for individuals with mental health conditions focusing on
treatment and prevention. In addition, the clinic will provide 24/7 crisis triage services for
established patients.
Proposed services include integrated physical and mental health assessment,
individualized treatment planning, medication management, mental health counseling, social
service assessment and referrals, on-call crisis triage services, and wellness programs. Both
individual and group services will be offered. Providing a comprehensive approach to mental
health requires a diverse team of professionals. The clinic is owned and operated by an
experienced psychiatric nurse practitioner (NP). The mental health clinic team members include
the psychiatric NP, a licensed mental health counselor, a licensed social worker, and an RN
health and wellness coach. Additionally, the clinic will require a qualified administrative
assistant for reception, scheduling, and billing. The NP will collaborate with the
multidisciplinary team and the patient to create an individualized, comprehensive mental health
