Case Study: Virginia (“Ginny”) Miller
Background Information
Ginny Miller is a 15-year-old, bi-racial, heterosexual female. Ginny was born in Virginia
and at a very young age Ginny’s mother and father got a divorce, this led to Ginny and her
mother moving to Louisiana. In Louisiana Ginny was taken from her mother and placed into
social services after it was discovered that her mother was running an illegal poker ring. In order
to get Ginny back her mother got together with the landlord of the apartment they were living
in to prove she was in a stable situation. This relationship quickly became abusive, so Ginny’s
mother fled with Ginny to Texas. In Texas Ginny’s mother got together with a man and with this
man Ginny’s brother, Austin, was born. After that relationship too became abusive, Ginny’s
mother moved them to another city in Texas. It was there that Ginny’s mother got into another
relationship and while living with this man Ginny was being sexually abused by him. Upon
discovering this Ginny’s mother moved her and her brother to Massachusetts, where her
mother hoped they could start over. Since Ginny’s father figured out where she was living, he
has been making attempts to see her and stay in contact with her. All of this said, Ginny’s
childhood has been incredibly inconsistent as she has moved around many times and had
several different male figures present. Ginny and her family are currently living in a
predominantly white neighborhood, and she attends a predominantly white school. Even with
the challenges this has brought up as a bi-racial teenager, Ginny is making friends and doing well
in school.
Current Behaviors and Treatment
Due to the lack of stability in her life Ginny has been struggling with anxiety and
depression. Along with this, Ginny has been coping via self-harm. As previously mentioned,
Ginny is living in a predominately white neighborhood and attends a predominantly white
