Introduction
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) has transformed the way knowledge is accessed
and shared, reshaping education across the globe. In South Africa, where socio-
economic inequalities and resource disparities remain major challenges, technology-
enhanced teaching is seen as a tool to bridge gaps in quality education. The
Department of Basic Education (DBE) has recognised the potential of digital tools to
improve learner engagement, creativity, and critical thinking (DBE, 2019; DBE, 2020).
However, there is a pressing need for research that investigates the actual impact of
technology-enhanced teaching in South African secondary schools.
The purpose of this assignment is to critically apply research and critical reasoning skills
to design a study that explores this issue. The questions focus on five aspects:
1. The design of a literature review.
2. The selection of research paradigms.
3. Research approach and design.
4. The application of action research.
5. Ethical considerations and trustworthiness.
Drawing from Units 3–5 of the RCE2601 study guide (UNISA, 2023) and supported by
local and international literature, this assignment provides a comprehensive research
proposal that aligns with both academic theory and practical realities in South African
schools.
