Task 4: Usability Test Plan
A. Overview of the Learning Module
The Golden Maple Middle School case study is what I used to create the storyboard and mockup
for the learning solution. The mockup module I created is designed for sixth-grade students who
are currently struggling with tone recognition. My learning module, A Tone of Fun, includes a
variety of media, videos, and interactive activities to help students accurately assess a person's
tone. After going through various activities, students will be given a formative and summative
assessment at the end of the module.
B. Purpose of Testing
The purpose of testing this learning module is to see if it works successfully the way that it was
intended. The first reason why I would want to run this test is to make sure it runs the way that I
designed it to. Second, I also want to use this mockup test to ensure that there aren’t any
problems that arise for students as they work on it. Next, I really want to make sure this test is
effective in improving student learning. This is probably one of the most important reasons why
it is necessary to conduct the mockup. If student growth is not occurring, then this test is not
helpful at all. Finally, as an instructional designer, I want to make sure that my learning module
is easy to use for the students who are participating.

There are multiple things that I would like to see tested with this module. My hope is that
students move through this module without any issues. Moving through this module without any
issues would mean that all links work, students can navigate without any issues, and that they
remain engaged. This mockup will also help give me an idea of how long it will take students to
complete it, and if the length needs to be adjusted.
D. Testing Objectives
When I designed this learning module, I wanted to be clear about exactly what I’m looking for.
My first focus will be on timing. I need to know how long it actually takes students to get
through the entire module in a real classroom setting. Second, I want to see how easily they
navigate from one part to the next. I’m also keeping track of how often they get a question
wrong. Finally, I want their honest opinions at the end so I can evaluate how well the module has
helped them.
E. Usability Metrics
The following metrics will be used:
Completion time — the actual number of minutes from start to finish.
Help requests — every time a student asks for navigation help.
Review redirects — the count of times they’re sent back to earlier content after a wrong answer.
Satisfaction score — their rating from 1 to 5 at the very end.
F. Usability Performance Goals
I’m aiming for:
At least 90% of students finish in an hour or less.
At least 90% navigate without major hiccups.
An average satisfaction score of four stars or higher.
