Two ways toddlers develop their musical skills according to researchers:

 Imitating sounds and rhythms - Toddlers learn by copying the singing,

sounds.




1.2 Evaluation of music

Development of Literacy
Music supports literacy by enhancing phonological awareness children learn to
distinguish between different sounds, rhythms, and syllables in songs. For example,
rhyming songs such as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” help learners hear sound patterns,
improving reading readiness. Singing repetitive lines also develops vocabulary and
memory, while following lyrics teaches sequencing and comprehension.

Development of Numeracy
Music fosters numeracy by introducing counting, patterns, and sequencing. Songs
with counting verses (e.g., “Five Little Ducks”) reinforce number recognition and
subtraction concepts. Clapping to a beat teaches one-to-one correspondence, and
rhythm games improve the understanding of patterns a foundation for mathematical
problem-solving.
