DUE 29 AUGUST 2025
1. Analyse the Scenario
Bright Futures College faces many challenges that affect how the institution
works and its success. The key problems include fewer students enrolling
and staying in college, students performing poorly in their studies, and low
graduation rates. The college culture is divided, with departments working
separately without much teamwork. Faculty and staff resist change because
they are used to old ways of teaching and working. Finally, the curriculum
and teaching methods lack creativity and do not match the needs of modern
education.
These issues impact the college’s overall performance badly. When students
do not enrol or drop out, the college loses income and reputation. Poor
academic results and low graduation rates make it difficult for the college
to attract new students. A siloed culture means departments do not share
ideas or resources, causing inefficiency and miss opportunities. Resistance
to change slows down progress, and outdated teaching fails to prepare
students for the modern world.
To solve these problems, leadership and change management theories can
guide the approach. Transformational leadership is suitable because it
focuses on inspiring and motivating people to work together toward a
common goal (Bass & Riggio, 2006). Transformational leaders create a
vision for the future and encourage innovation. To manage change, Lewin’s
Change Model is helpful. It involves three steps: unfreezing (preparing the
organization to accept change), changing (implementing new ways), and
refreezing (making the changes part of the culture) (Lewin, 1947). Schein’s
Organizational Culture Theory also provides insight into how to understand
and change the deep beliefs and values that shape behaviour in the college
(Schein, 2010).
