beautiful city, I have saved on this day by my labors, plans, and dangers from fire and sword. Now, o citizens,
since you already hold the evil leaders of the evil war captured, you must think about your good outlook.
Catiline has been expelled from the midst of the city. It was that man who was being fear by all, for as long as
he was contained by the city’s walls. Now, that man, so sharp, so daring, so vigilant in crime, and so diligent in
bad things, has been removed. Even though all these things, o citizens, have been managed by me, they
nevertheless seem to have been carried out and revised by the command and the counsel of the immortal gods.
For many times, the immortal gods have nourished the hope and the faith of this republic. At this time,
however, you must give them the most splendid thanks. For you have been snatched from a most cruel and
miserable death, you have been snatched withought slaughter, without blood, without an army.
Through your memory, o citizens, our affairs will be nourished; praise, fame, and glory will be strong; they
will live and remain through writings. We will be able to be in perpetual peace, o citizens.
