D295 WGU Task 1: 8th Grade Algebra 1 Unit Plan for Graphing Functions
D295 Task 1 Unit Plan Template
Grade Level – 8th grade Learning Goal: 1) Students will be able to graph a linear
function on a coordinate plane from slope intercept form.
Content Area: Math – Algebra 1 E-Learning Environment: Students will complete a two
weeklong unit using an eLearning module. Within the
eLearning module, students will be able to access unit
resources and materials and complete all learning activities.
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in
online collaboration with fellow students, communicate with
their teacher and complete assessments.
How Skills are being Scaffolded Across the Unit: Content, instruction and assessment is scaffolded across this unit plan
for algebra students. Scaffolding begins in Lesson 1 with a teacher led warmup to review foundational knowledge of a
coordinate plane and graphing of ordered pairs. Upon mastery of lesson 1, students will move to lesson 2 where they will
work independently in the eLearning module to identify intercepts on the coordinate plane and from an equation. Once
students can successfully identify intercepts, students will continue to lesson 3 where they will engage in a collaborative
activity to explore and deepen their understanding of slope. After the collaborative activity, students will work independently
to apply their knowledge to a problem set where they will be asked to find slope from a graph and equation. Once students
have mastered finding slope, students will move to Lesson 4 where they will independently apply their learning to graph lines
on the coordinate plane.
The lessons start with teacher-led learning and progress to student driven learning in order to prepare students to
independently demonstrate acquisition of knowledge in Lesson 4. Each lesson leads to the next lesson and combined
together, they will prepare the student for success on the summative assessment.
ISTE Standard: 7C Global Collaborator
2 Digital Citizenship Principles of 7C: 1) students will use digital tools to collaborate with others to explore and deepen
their understanding of slope. 2) students will use collaborative technologies to connect with learners from a variety of
backgrounds and cultures, engaging with them to work effectively toward the goal of completing Task 3.

Expectations for students engaging in e-learning environment for specific activities: An expectation for students
using this eLearning module is that students are expected to operate with academic integrity. Academic integrity entails
engaging in their own learning and doing their own work. Expectations include students not using unauthorized materials or
websites to get answers.
A.5: The expectation and policy are taught and incorporated into the eLearning module in several ways. First, at the
beginning of the unit, the teacher will make clear to students the expectations regarding permissible conduct. Teachers will
demonstrate what websites are not allowed to be used and explain the consequences of violating the policy. Additionally,
there will be a similarity report generated every time a lesson is turned in along with a statement asking students to confirm
that the work being submitted is their own work.
Policies for students engaging in e-learning environment for specific activities: The teacher policy for first time
violations of academic dishonesty expectations is a private conversation with the student and parent to discuss the violation.
A score of 0 will be awarded on the lesson and student will have to participate in an academic integrity workshop to earn an
opportunity to redo the assignment and improve their score. Repeat violation will be subject to the school and district policy.
