Particle A particle is a small localized object to which can be ascribed several physical or chemical properties such as volume, mass, or charge. In science, particles are the building blocks of matter, which include atoms and molecules (Giancoli, 2013). b. Atomic model An atomic model is a theoretical representation of the structure and behavior of atoms. Over time, different models have been developed, including Dalton’s solid sphere model, Thomson’s plum pudding model, Rutherford’s nuclear model, Bohr’s planetary model, and the modern quantum mechanical model (Zumdahl & Zumdahl, 2014). c. Subatomic The term "subatomic" refers to particles that are smaller than an atom.
