Assignment 4 - 2025
N.B PARAPHRASE YOUR WORK TO AVOID PLAGARISM (CHANGE WORDS)
QUESTION 1:
1.1
Yes, I have used AI tools when completing my assignments. I used
Grammarly.
1.2
I have used these tools to help me understand complex academic concepts
by asking questions in simple language and generating examples. Grammarly,
for instance, has helped me brainstorm ideas, explain theories, and clarify
assignment instructions. Grammarly supports my writing by checking
grammar and improving sentence structure.
, 1.3
What I like about using AI tools is that they are available anytime, making
them very convenient for quick support or guidance. I also appreciate how
they can simplify difficult content and offer immediate feedback to improve my
work.
1.4
As a student, I can use AI tools ethically by ensuring I understand and
process the information rather than copying it directly. I can use them as
guides or study aids, and still do my own critical thinking, writing, and
referencing to develop my academic and cognitive skills.
1.5
The main risks of over-relying on AI tools include becoming too dependent on
them, which might limit my ability to think independently. It can reduce
problem-solving skills and creativity if I always use AI for answers. Over time,
this could affect my cognitive development, as I may not fully engage with
learning tasks or practice writing and thinking for myself.
QUESTION 2: Case Study – The AI Assignment Dilemma
2.1 Response to Thabang (8 marks)
My approach to Thabang would be developmental and supportive in the
response. Based on the psychosocial stages of Erikson, the adolescent age is
at the identity vs. role confusion stage where the children are learning how to
define themselves, and also forming a moral identity. The confusion of
Thabang demonstrates that he probably lacks the proper knowledge about
academic integrity. I would clarify what is the distinction between using AI to
facilitate the learning process and using AI to come up with work to claim that
it is his. I would confirm his willingness to do a good job as well as make him
realize that learning occurs with hard work and thinking. With the help of
Kohlbergs theory of moral development, Thabang seems to be at the
conventional level where social acceptance matters. I would direct him to
comprehend the moral consequences of cheating in the school environment.
Cognitively, based on formal operational stage as proposed by Piaget,
teenagers are in a place to think on an abstract level but yet require
supervision on how the rules are to be applied under consistent
circumstances. I would make him think critically about the repercussion of
misusing AI. In order to motivate his work, I would use a growth mindset and
self-motivation strategy, including the overall principle, that he should aim at
his own improvement, not at the achievement of the perfect answer. This
discussion would be positioned on a positive angle with the aim of promoting
his self esteem, development of ethical conduct and facilitating the
development of long-term learning.
2.2 Addressing AI Misuse in the Classroom (2 marks)
I would either come up with, or discuss an understandable policy of AI use
with the learners which would contain an explanation of acceptable and
