I have been tasked with the investigation of two very ethical, inspiring companies so that I may
suggest certain practices and/or changes to be made within our company, here at SNHU Pet Supply
Company. Upon investigation of both TOM’s Shoes and The Body Shop, I have learned all about their
social responsibilities and ethics, and I believe I have a good understanding of what makes these
companies really stand out. In this brief- I will be outlining certain policies, procedures, benefits, and
activities that these companies use to become recognized globally for their outstanding ethics and
dedication to social good.
TOM’s Shoes
TOM’s shoes was established in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie, and he had an amazing vision. I am
sure he had no idea that his brilliant way of donating one pair of shoes for every single pair of shoes
sold- would grow to this capacity all across the globe. The “One for One Model” is now a commonly
used sell (and donate) tactic by many companies that also take part in social good and philanthropic
activities. While this model obviously benefits those in need of shoes in third world countries, it is not a
one-sided transaction by no means. By advertising this generous, philanthropic model to their
customers- they are promoting good. And good sells. Upon further research into TOMS Shoes, they not
only donate shoes to the needy, but they also support grassroots as well as certain communities such as
LGBTQ, black and indigenous communities, women and children’s groups, and more. They partner with
organizations that support various causes all over the world. Another initiative they have partaken in
recently is mental health support and ensuring everyone’s access to it.
TOM’s has grown significantly since 2006, partnering with non-profits and organizations that
have similar values and ethics as their own. By partnering with so many community organizations- it
seems as though they are advertising for the good in almost every community! They are donating,
providing grants, and even volunteering with these organizations! By participating in these
