Topic: Frame Structures
To educate learners about the purpose of frame structures,
Learners must be able to define structures.
The aim is to educate learners about structural members in frame structure.
Learners must demonstrate how to make a structure.
1.3 Content that is applicable. (5)
Define frame structures.
Purpose of structural members (components) in wood and steel roof trusses.
King posts and queen posts, Struts, ties and Rafters.
1.4 Learner’s activities. (5)
Listen to the teacher and write notes.
Ask and answer questions from the teacher.
Work in groups to demonstrate how to make a structural member.
1.5 Teacher’s activities. (5)
Prepare a lesson plan and presentation.
Assess learners and mark.
Demonstrate how to make a structural member to learners.

2.1 Discuss two kinds of media resources which a teacher can utilize in the presentation of a

I. Publications,
Printed resources are viewed as primary resources for educators
Examples are textbooks, newspaper, magazines and periodicals.
II. Products,
These are used to enhance teaching and learning.
Examples are posters, models, charts, subject related videos, maps and photographs.
III. People,
This may involve experts coming to the classroom or even sitting with the educator to help plan
activities,
In case they cannot come to the classroom a video of them and their activities may be used.
Examples are experts in the field, civil engineers, colleagues’ parents or local community
members who can bring learning to the classroom.
IV. Places,
Site visits (e.g. to building sites, industry, construction, buildings, existing structures, major civil
works) can be way of making learning relevant to real life.
Multimedia may be used in cases where it is impossible to visit the sites.
V. Electronic media,
Electronic media such as the internet and CD-ROMs may be used to great effect in addressing
the assessment standards of the different learning outcomes in subject.
