Skill Development Tracker
I am very interested in pursuing a sport or biology-based degree at university and so an EPQ in either
Biology or Sport would provide me with lots of knowledge and potentially aid my degree. However, I am
also open to producing an EPQ on my hobbies as I will be interested in completing an EPQ on an area I am
interested in. I would also like to gain lots of skills that may aid me at university. I take three A-Levels in PE,
Geography and Biology so ideally, I like to pick an EPQ in something that may aid these A-Levels without
diving into the specification.
 I would like to develop a variety of transferrable skills that not only assist me in my future career but
also give me a sense of personal success for completing an EPQ.
 I also wanted to keep a record of skills I have gained from completing an EPQ as this would assist
my evaluation stage. This will show my progression throughout the project.

Skill Reason for wanting to develop this skill Current
assessment
of my
strength in
this skill –
Rating /10
Software skills My software skills are quite basic at the moment, and I am quite 5
slow when it comes to using platforms other than Word and
PowerPoint. I really see the value in improving my software skills in
a world where we are becoming increasingly dependent on
technology. I have seen many people able to use software to finish
tasks more efficiently than me and it frustrates me.
Critical analysis I feel as if my critical analysis is often quite poor, evidently in my 4
coursework in high school I often missed important analysis which
would have improved my work. This could lead to poor decision
making and so I would like to improve this skill so that I can
appropriately make decisions.
Dissertation I have never had experience of writing a dissertation before, but I 3
writing understand that this skill could be linked with writing essays which I
skills was fairly good at, e.g. in my GCSE English Literature/Language.
This is a skill I want to develop because I have seen that writing a
dissertation is a key skill for the university courses that I have
looked at. Improving this skill would definitely give me a foundation
for university.
Referencing I have only completed basic references before (GCSE 2
skills Coursework) and I know this will again be a key skill for writing
dissertations at university. I would like to understand how to
reference in a particular style so that I am efficient when it comes
to referencing at university.
Time Out of all the skills here, I believe this is the key skill I want to 3
management improve. I would like to improve my time-management skills
skills because it would significantly improve me as a person. For
example, If I was able to manage my time more effectively, I would
be and feel organised to complete tasks on time – something I
struggle with. I often procrastinate and so do not get tasks done.
Improving my time management skills would make me more
prepared for my exams because I will have revised at the right
times. Additionally, I will be able to transfer these skills to my day-
to-day life where I often find I do not have enough time to do
academic work as I play sports a lot!
Presentation My confidence is something which recently I have been trying to 6
Skills, improve and so although I do not think I am shy, I have always
e.g. confidence wanted to not worry about anything because poor confidence can
negatively affect my mindset.
Knowledge in I would like to gain knowledge in a topic, perhaps specifically in Dependent on
Topic something closely related to a career choice, which would give me topic
a foundation to assist me in the future.
Connections I would like to start making myself more well-known as I will be 1
with able to put this on my CV and personal statement to make my
other people/ application look more attractive. Furthermore, developing links with
businesses an organisation may increase my chances of completing a work
/companies/ placement year when completing a degree at university.
