Failure of the shoulders to deliver spontaneously places both the woman and the fetus at risk for injury. Postpartum hemorrhage, secondary to uterine atony or vaginal lacerations, is the major complication to the mother. Transient Erb’s or Duchenne’s brachial plexus palsies and clavicular or humeral fractures are the most common fetal injuries encountered with shoulder dystocia. Fetal Circulation a.
