WGU C955 Addressing Mental Health Issues: Interview and Community Sources.
Interviewee: Debra Strong
Job Title: Front Desk Receptionist
Organization: Lewisville High School
Date and Time: February 6th, 2025 @ 4PM
1. Identify two specific mental health or emotional well-being issues
within your school community.
- Anxiety
- Social Isolation and Loneliness
2. Identify one specific school-based resource for each of the identified
issues and discuss how each resource meets the needs of students.
- We have many different resources at the school for students and
teachers. For students who have anxiety and depression issues, we
have an on-site therapist who comes twice a week and talks to
students about mental health symptoms and problems.
- Social isolation is one of the biggest concerns in high school. These
teenagers are just trying to fit in and make a statement about the
four years they have been here. The many clubs we provide are the
resources we use to help with this. A student can pick from a
variety of at least 50 clubs or more to join. This will help them
build relationships with peers and raise their social meter.
Community Resources:
1. Identify one specific community-based location (e.g., Oakville City
Library, Foothill Branch) that provides resources to address one
of the issues identified in part A1a. Include the street address in
your identification.
- Although I live in a small town, there are many resources here. The
leading resource in my village is the parks and recreation center.
There is a variety of things to do here. You could join a football
team, chess club, or pickleball team, or you could want a place to
hang out. The Parks and Recs Center also has a clinic onsite with
many doctors, including a therapist.
