- Microbiologie: deel van de biologie dat micro-organismen bestudeert
- Micro-organismen: met blote oog meestal niet waarneembaar, levende wezentjes van microscopische
afmetingen

o Smeer op vaste voedingsbodem
- Laboratorium
o Isoleren van wild-type stam
▪ Uit waterstaal, voedingsstaal, klinisch staal op vaste voedingsbodem
- Disciplines
o Klinische microbiologie
▪ Pathogeen micro-organisme aantonen in patiëntenstaal + gevoeligheid t.o.v. anti-
microbiële middelen bepalen
o Milieumicrobiologie
▪ Kwaliteit water controleren op aanwezigheid micro-organismen
• E.coli en enterokokken wijzen op faecale (=ontlasting) verontreiniging
o Onderzoekslabo
▪ Al dan niet genetisch manipuleren of typeren van micro-organismen
