FM 4991 EXAM Question and answers 100% correct 2025

1. ASTM E 814 Standard Test Method for Fire Tests of Penetration Firestop Systems

2. UL 1479 Fire Tests of Penetration Firestops
ditters from ASTM E 814 by evaluating and establishing an L rating, a
W Rating, and am M rating.

3. L Rating Based on the amount of air leakage through the firestop system
measured in cubic feet per minute, or cubic feet per minute per square
foot of opening area when subjected to a pressure of 0.30 in. water
column.

4. W Rating is a result of testing for water leakage through a firestop system; the test
assembly is subject to a minimum 3 ft column of water for 72 hours.
No water leakage is permitted.

5. T Rating is a result of the period of time (in hours or 15 minute increments) a firestop
system has been shown capable of keeping the unexposed surface of
the firestop system and/or any penetrating items from exceeding a
325F degree temperature rise 12" above the assembly. This T Rating
also includes passage of F Rating requirements for the same time
period as determined by ASTM E 814, UL 1479 or other test
standards.

6. Elastomeric A characteristic demonstrated by a material that is flexible and permits
movement.

7. Endothermic A characteristic of a material that blocks heat by chemical absorption
and moisture release. Endothermic material gives ott entrained water
as a result of exposure to fire. This release of water cools the reaction
with fire and helps sustain the firestop sealant for the specified period
of time.

8. Intumescent A property whereby a material expands significantly (2 to 20+ times
original vol- ume) as a result of being exposed to heat or fire.
Intumescent materials are often used in firestopping around annular
