, Introduction
• Trauma is the commonest cause of mortality and
morbidity for children include motor vehicle accidents,
falls, drowning, fires, and even non-accidental injuries.
• The principles of trauma management is that children
have distinct anatomy and physiology compared to
adults and they have immense ability to compensate
for volume lost as well as ventilatory failure.
• If these compensatory mechanisms are not recognised
early in the phase of ongoing blood lost/hypoxia, the
patient will deteriorate rapidly.
