Population Health Data Paper
Population health outcomes provide information specific to the people living within a
community. It can provide information on how long on average people live, and how much
physical and mental health the people in these community experience while they are alive.
Monterey County is one of 58 counties within the state of California (Figure 1).
According to the US census, Monterey County has a population of 432,858, approximately

11% of California’s total population. In land size, Monterey is the 17 largest with 3,281.7
square miles of land (Unites States Census Bureau). These two factors; county size and
population, along with numerous other demographics contribute to the county's overall
health outcome ranking. Monterey’s health outcome is ranked as 18 in the 58 counties
ranked. This places Monterey County in the higher middle range of counties in California
(County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, 2023).
