Topic 2 DQ 2 (Obj. 2.1)
Feb 20-24, 2023
How do the five senses influence our perception of the world? Choose one of the senses and explain
how the loss of it would affect your day-to-day perception of the world.
The five senses impact perception by sending signals to the brain that affect how we react to and
interpret the world around us. “When certain pathways are “closed off,” the brain is able to take a
detour of sorts” (Tokuyama, 2017). This is related to brain plasticity. The sense I am going to choose is
sight. Without my sight, I wouldn’t be able to do my job and I wouldn’t be able to take care of my farm.
To be honest if I couldn’t see my children I would go into a depression. To lose my sight would be a
very big deal to me. Unlike losing my sense of taste, smell, or hearing.
