C815 Quality and Performance Management and Methods
, WORKPLACE STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES
Supervisors play a vital role in maintaining workplace standards and guidelines. They are
usually the first line of communication an employee has; therefore, it is important that
supervisors are aware of workplace standards and are ensuring they are maintained. Supervisors
can do this by having a written record of policies and procedures as this serves as a reference
point for new and current employees (Oachs & Watters, 2020). Also, supervisors should set
clear and attainable expectations regarding workplace standards and guidelines. These
expectations should align with the organization’s mission and values as well as the mission and
goals of the specific department in which the supervisor works (NIH Office of Human
Resources, 2018). Another process supervisors use is to continually review and communicate
progress as it relates to performance ensuring that the feedback is constructive and credible. This
should be communicated for each individual as well as a team (University of Washington,
2021). PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT
Supervisors can promote productivity improvement by ensuring that their teams have the
necessary tools and trainings to do their job. Tools can include the right equipment and systems,
such as using cloud-based applications and devices so that they have access everywhere, as well
as streamlined processes. Ensuring that employees are able to do their job efficiently empowers
them to be more productive (Cross, 2024a). Supervisors can also promote productivity by
recognizing employee achievements and offering incentives for hitting specific milestones.
Employees being recognized and feeling appreciated encourages them to stay productive and
motivated (RobertHalf, 2024).
