The purpose of this assignment is that you will be able to apply transport economics theory
to a given scenario. This assignment will also help you to practice writing skills and to fulfil

NQF 6 requirements. As we draw closer to the exam bear in mind you will receive similar
structured questions that require application and discussion. Assignment 02 consists of two
long questions.
Question 1
1.1 Discuss the most important factors that determine the characteristics of transport
supply. (15)
1.2 Discuss in detail the function and nature of transport. Consider the different modes and
infrastructure available and what kind of utility they provide as well as any possible
competitive advantage that can be derived from them in your discussion.
