Module 8- Neuro
1. Relate the name and function of each of the 12 cranial nerves to its assessment.
2. Describe the procedure of positioning and preparing the patient for a neurologic
assessment.
3. Differentiate among the three types of neurological exams. When would you do them?
4. Describe the subjective and objective data that should be assessed in a patient who presents
with a problem related to the neurologic system. (Headache, Head injury, dizziness/vertigo
etc)
5. Describe the sequence for a complete neuro exam.
6. Describe mental status examination to include levels of consciousness.
7. Describe expected finding when assessing sensory function. (Pain, temperature, light touch)
8. Describe the plantar reflex, normal, abnormal (Babinski). What would abnormal indicate?
9. Describe how to grade deep tendon reflexes. Where would you assess deep tendon reflexes?
10. Describe self-care, risk reduction and health promotion information related to stroke prevention
that should be taught during a health assessment. (FAST, risk factors, vaccinations)
Module 9- Musculoskeletal
1. Understand body movements.
2. Describe the procedure of positioning and preparing the patient for an assessment of the
musculoskeletal system.
3. Describe the subjective and objective data that should be assessed in a patient who presents
with a problem related to the musculoskeletal system. Remember functional assessment of
ADLs.
4. Describe the order of examination when performing a musculoskeletal assessment.
5. Understand common conditions of the hand and wrist.
6. Describe the expected findings associated with an examination of the bones, muscles and
joints.
7. Understand the rating scale for muscle strength.
8. Identify the age-related changes that alter assessment findings of the musculoskeletal system.
9. Understand fall risk assessment.
10. Identify the risk factors for osteoporosis.
11. Describe risk reduction and health promotion strategies to reduce musculoskeletal injuries
and disease that should be taught to patients when conducting an assessment of the bones,
joints, and muscles.
