airway - ANS-The passageway by which air enters and leaves the body.
Primary Assessment - ANS-A prehospital assessment that is the first step in the total
assessment of the patient. Focus on life threats that interfere with airway, breathing and
circulation.
rapid trauma assessment - ANS-a rapid assessment of the head, neck, chest,
abdomen, pelvis, extremities, and posterior of the body to detect signs and symptoms of
injury
Reassessment - ANS-prehospital, a procedure for detecting changes in a patient's
condition. It involves four steps: repeating the primary assessment, repeating and
recording vital signs, repeating the physical exam, and checking interventions.
Secondary Assessment - ANS-A prehospital assessment done after the scene safety
and primary assessment that includes patient history, review of systems, physical
examination and vital signs.
Blunt force trauma - ANS-injury caused by a blow that does not penetrate the skin or
other body tissues
breathing - ANS-inhaling and exhaling
Chief Complaint (CC) - ANS-The reason a patient called for help; also, the patient's
response to questions such as "What's wrong?" or "What happened?"
circulation - ANS-the course of the blood from the heart through the arteries, capillaries,
and veins back again to the heart.
cyanosis - ANS-a bluish discoloration of the skin resulting from poor circulation or
inadequate oxygenation of the blood.
Continuim of Care - ANS-Integrated system of care. Care provided by different
caregivers at several different levels of the healthcare system

problems in the past
