Sexual Reproduction - Requires two parents.

Pros: there are lots of genetic differences

Cons: fewer babies

Asexual Reproduction - Requires one parent

Pros: Don't need to find a mate; more babies.

Cons: there is little to no genetic differences

Reproduction - A process by which an organism produces offspring, or young; to make
more of the same.

Adaptation - The process of change by which an organism or species becomes better
suited to its environment.

Development - The process in which an organism changes from a zygote to its full
structure.

Is the egg a female or male cell? - Female

Is the sperm a female or male cell? - Male

Pollen - The sperm cells of a flower

Seed - When the male and female cells of a plant are combined they produce seeds.

Offspring - When the egg and sperm combine, they create an offspring. Ex:a baby/child.

Trait - A quality that makes something/someone different from others.

, Why do male birds have brightly colored feathers in comparison to the females of the same
species? - So they can show off their feathers to attract the females and mate with them.

Why is it important for animals to sing or call out to each other? - It increases the odds of
reproduction. If they successfully attract a female by singing/calling out to each other, then they
can mate and create an offspring.

What are two ways travelling in a herd increases the odds of reproduction? - Animals can
find a mate while traveling with their species. Plus, when the offspring is born it would be better
protected when traveling.

Some plants reproduce with seeds that float while others reproduce with seeds that stick to the
fur of animals. Why have these plants developed these traits? - Their seeds can't be
planted near them because it is dangerous. So plants have developed these traits in order to
ensure the survival of their offspring. This way the seed would eventually fall to the ground, get
planted, and grow somewhere far away from the parent.

What is an example of adaptation? - Having seeds stick to the fur of animals so that it can
be planted far away from the parent.

Why do flowers have both male and female reproductive organs? - So they can
reproduce without having a mate since their mate is right there.

Are pollinators necessary? Why or why not? - Yes because they could increase genetic
variance in plants. Pollen also increases the odds of reproduction.

What is the process of sexual reproduction called? - Meiosis

What is the process of asexual reproduction called? - Mitosis

What does the process of sexual reproduction/meiosis start with? - Germ cell (egg and
sperm)

What does the process of asexual reproduction/mitosis start with? - Somatic body cell
(two identical daughter cells)

What is the egg of a flower called? - Ovum

What is the sperm of a flower called? - Pollen

What are gametes (sexual reproduction)? - a mature male or female germ cell that is able
to mate with another of the opposite sex in sexual reproduction to form a zygote.

What is a zygote? - Fertilized egg
