Topic 5 DQ 1
Discuss the role of faith in families and how this quality affects these relationships.
What other factors are consistent with your belief in faith-based marriages? What
qualities would you least expect from the faith- based families?
Hello class and professor,
The eight qualities that Wilcox associated with these couples include higher educational levels,
higher financial resources, support from those around them, sharing responsibilities, faith in a
higher being, shared beliefs, being generous to each other, and being sexually satisfied (Olson
et al., 2022). I think sharing similar beliefs can help strengthen a couple's relationship because
it can help express their emotions or thoughts. I think a good example of this is when two
people share a religion and can be like "oh this bible verse made me think of you or something
similar based on their religion. I, personally, am not religious but I think the family being
generous to each other and having good support from those around them ties into the idea of
them sharing faiths. I think many families struggle with sharing responsibilities in a way that
satisfies all parties involved. I also think many families struggle to discuss their sexual needs
and satisfaction.

An authoritarian parent might believe that they are doing what is best for a child.
Discuss cohesion and adaptability in parenting. How might you work with an
authoritarian parent to meet the needs of their child?
Hello class and professor,
The textbook describes the authoritarian parenting style as being rigid and strict (Olson et
al.,2022). In this style of parenting, the family is either cohesive or enmeshed and has no
adaptability or flexibility (Olson et al., 2022). This parenting style can be incredibly rough on
children and adolescents because it can give them no room to grow or develop because it gives
them no room to grow or develop themselves. I think the first step is to know the culture of the
family. There are many recent studies that show culture has an influence on parenting
practices. I also think it is important for the professional to make sure the parents know that
