Where I was:
When learners perform poorly at schools, it is often considered a result of weak mental
ability or disinclination of studies. Primarily, it is usually a student’s fault, since they are either
not able or willing to study. However, there are numerous instances when students perform
poorly in specific subjects or outshine. Therefore, sometimes the faults might also occur due to
poor teaching. Indeed, I have been such a victim before, and I believe that various issues affected
my teaching abilities.
First, I relied on poor teaching strategies. One common mistake that affects students'
performance is a poor choice of teaching methods. After communicating with different teachers,
they gave me numerous types of ideas concerning the matter. Some argued that students are able
to memorize what they see; others admitted that they are able to remember everything they hear,
whereas other suggested that what they engage in practically is what they memorize better. Of all
the suggestions the idea that pleased me the most, was that the imagery presented during
teaching contributes greatly to memorization rather than verbal information. It suggested that
only a particular section of the kids will be in a position to learn everything effectively. Thus, I
learned that there should be a variety of teaching strategies in order to capture the attention of all
learners.

After being examined by a number of officials I was informed that I lack competence.
One major weakness in most tutors is a lack of competence. Teachers require having enough
skills regarding a specific subject. Failure to do that implies that the teacher is incompetent in
teaching and might lead to the failure of many students. Although the issue is not common, since
we all undergo accreditation, such problems may affect students, mainly in smaller district
schools where there are fewer teachers.
Another issue that deteriorated my teaching skills was failing to teach all levels of
learning. An issue that affected my performance most was focusing only on the bright students
and failing to cover all teaching levels. Some students can learn certain subjects faster than
others, and if a teacher concentrates on the progress of the fast learning students, there is the
probability that others might fail to maintain the same level as the others. It implies that they
have not yet mastered, but the tutor is moving forward regardless. Since that was my case, I
recall that my class was divided into two sections; the ones who performed better and the ones
who failed.
Lastly, I was also confronted with the issue of personal disaffection. There was a time I
had personal disaffections with some students. Therefore, this made some of my students
perform poorly. Such problems are associated with immorality among some students. However, I
have learned that just because a student is immoral, does not imply that I should fail the students
than they deserve. There are other approaches that teachers should use to overcome unethical
behavior among such students. However, personal disaffection might also be caused by other
aspects such as race, social status, and much more, but using the right approach can avoid the
problem.
