Question 1 (20 Marks)

1.1 Identify and critically discuss the types of resources that were needed to start
a Nkukhu-Box franchise. (10 marks)

Starting a business like Nkukhu Box takes more than just a good idea. A variety of
resources are needed to turn the concept into a working and successful business.
These include financial, human, physical, and intellectual resources.

1. Financial Resources:
Nkukhu Box would have needed a significant amount of money to get off the ground.
This includes money for setting up the first store, buying kitchen equipment, paying rent,
staff wages, marketing, and buying ingredients in bulk. Since the first store opened in
Mamelodi in 2016, costs would have included renovations, branding (like signs and
logos), and basic utilities. Financial backing could have come from savings, loans, or
investors.

2. Human Resources:
Any business needs people to run it. At Nkukhu Box, this includes skilled cooks who
understand Kasi-style grilling, cashiers, cleaners, and delivery drivers. But it doesn’t end
there — the founder would also need business managers, marketing specialists, and
maybe even legal and accounting support to keep things in order.
