Unit 2: Supplementary Outcome Appendix G
Date Completed

1) Describe the method of booking recall
appointments for existing patients at your
workplace:

All phone calls are answered with “ Ghauri Dental Centre how can I help” After a
response we asked the patient if they are in existing patient if they say yes, a day of
birth is asked for and is put into the system to load all the patient details.
Patient is then ask to confirm the full name of the address and then we address the
situation the patient needs help with. The patient is assigned to the usual dentist who
will help them with their case, They are booked in for a 20-30 minutes appointment
In the earliest slot available that the patient is happy with. The patient is ready to
end the call me ask them at the end if there is anything else we can help them. We
also make sure the patient know that they would have an SMS text confirming our
appointment.
Ideally, the NICE guidelines for dental recalls are as follows:
- be mindful of the patient’s age as this could be helpful when creating a recall
interval
- also consider the patient’s medical and dental condition and history
- make sure to ask for consent when sending a reminder text to the patient

Usually the interval before the next oral health review is six-month however
depending on the patient’s dental condition if severe, minimum, three months.
Longest recall being in 4 years.

2) A patient requires an extraction. What would
you need to consider when making the
appointment? What pre-treatment instructions
could be given to the patient?
