Topic 6 DQ 1
If a clinician performs a biopsychosocial assessment, is the order
questions are asked important? What should be assessed first and
why?
Hello class and professor,
I think doing some form of a biopsychosocial assessment is important
because it gives the professional ideas about the different aspects (biological,
social, and psychological) in a person's life. According to Julia Cardoso, the
biopsychosocial model can help clients understand how all aspects of their
health impact each other (Cardoso, 2022). I think the two biggest reasons it
would be important to ask these questions in a specific order is so that a) the
client does not jump to conclusion or try to feed the answers into each other
and b) the professional has the best information to help the client. If the
professional jumps around too much or does the questions in a different
order, then they might not get to the questions that could actually shape a
treatment plan (Boyles, 2020).
I think getting a client's psychological state first is the most important
because that will shape what the other questions lean towards. For example,
if a client comes in saying that they have been feeling more anxious lately,
you would ask questions about why they think that or how that has been
affecting them mentally, instead of immediately jumping to job issues or
social issues because then the client could just assume that those are the
problems and not address the underlying problem. The professional in this
scenario would also get more insight into how the client thinks and how they
view mental health by asking psychological based questions.
