, Introduction
• Numerous policies and procedures pertaining to special education are in
place to make sure your child receives an appropriate education
• For a parent to effectively advocate for their children's education, they
do not have to become experts in every subject of special education
• However, knowing the fundamentals of special education processes and
procedures inside and out will make it easier for you as parents to
handle each step of the journey
• In this presentation, I will discuss the referral, eligibility, and services
processes in special education.
, Referral Process
• A written referral for an evaluation is required
• A referral for an evaluation may also come from the student's parent
school personnel, the teachers, or other people who have knowledge
the student (Hardin et al., 2017)
• Additionally, the district is responsible for "child find," which entails
locating, identifying, and assessing all pupils in the district who requ
special education
• The school district will determine whether to evaluate your child or n
based on your comments within 25 school days
• Before beginning the initial review, the district must have your
informed consent.
