3. Lorena has been receiving ECI services (Early Childhood Intervention)
at home from a Speech Language Pathologist and an Occupational
therapist since she was 24 months old. Services are often provided at
home in the presence of either one or both parents. An interpreter is
provided during therapy sessions to facilitate efficient communication
with parents. (therapist fluent in two languages or family member
fluent in two languages) Lorena exclusively receives speech therapy
(ST) and occupational therapy (OT) and does not engage in any other
therapeutic interventions. The team, consisting of both therapists and
parents, completely agrees on the need to seek further in addressing
her shouting, crying and self-injurious behavior.

Assessment Results

Direct Observation: A variety of times during the day were observed in order
to identify behavioral tendencies.

BCBA Interviews: BCBA provided insights into the frequency, duration, and
intensity of Lorena's behaviors.

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA): This assessment helped identify the
antecedents, behaviors, and consequences (ABCs) associated with Lorena's
disruptive actions.

 Antecedents: Disruptive behaviors often occurred when Lorena's needs
and wants are not being understood.

 Behaviors: Yelling, Crying, SIB.

 Consequences: Attention from parents and escape from difficult task

Operational Definition of Challenging behavior

Yelling:

 Definition: Any instance where Lorena raises her voice above
conversational level, often accompanied by screaming or shouting.

Example: Lorena shouts "No!" loudly when asked to complete a task.

Non-example: Lorena speaks in a loud voice during parallel play when
playing with friends
