The MSM is a theoretical computer model devised by Atkinson
and Shiffrin in 1968. There are 3 key assumptions of the model:
1. There are 3 separate unitary stores of memory.
2. Those 3 stores are the sensory memory, the short-term memo
(STM) and the long-term memory (LTM).
3. The model works in a serial fashion, where info has to move th
each store to get to the next.
For each store we need to know:
• The Capacity: how much info it holds.
• The Duration: how long the info is
stored for.
• The Encoding: in what format
the info is stored.
