Q.1.Explain the background of general yahya khan election in 1970?
Ans:
Background of General Yahya Khan's Election (1970):
In 1970,General Yahya Khan held elections in Pakistan.In the election 2 major political parties
emerged
Awami League which was from East Pakistan.(They won majority of the votes)
Pakistan Peoples Party(PPP)which was from west Pakistan
Due to tensions or differences between the 2 parties,it led to separation of east Pakistan in 1971
December(which is called Bangladesh in present day).General Yahya Khan after separation of
East Pakistan,resigned and handed government to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

Bhutto’s Government?

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's Rule (1971-1977):
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was handed the Government by General Yahya Khan in 1971 and his
government lasted till 1977.He became the country first martial law administrator on September
20 1971.The martial law lasted till 1972.Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto became leader after Pakistan’s defeat
in 1971 war against India,which resulted in 93,000 prisoner of war from Pakistan.
Challenges Faced by Bhutto's Government And His Work:
Bhutto worked on strategies to release prisoners and rebuild public trust.
The government faced widespread loss of public trust.
As Martial Law Administrator, Bhutto had unlimited powers.
Appointed Mumtaz Ali Bhutto as Governor of Sindh and Hayat Muhammad Sherpao
Khan as Governor of KPK,Ghulam Mustafa Khar of Punjab and Ghaus Bakhsh Rehmani
of Balochistan.
Canceled Pakistani passports of wealthy people (capitalists) to prevent them from
leaving the country and transferring their money abroad.
313 government workers were fired to make the Administrative work better.
