Introduction
The prevalence of diabetes in children and youth has increased steadily worldwide over
the past two decades. The increasing prevalence of diabetes has attracted the attention of global
public health organizations and national public health institutions due to the immense cost of
diabetes management. The transition from pediatrics to adult is a critical period for young adults
with diabetes (Agarwal et al., 2018; Iversen et al., 2019; Spaic et al., 2019). To address this
issue, Agarwal et al., 2018, Iversen et al., 2019, and Spaic et al., 2019 the authors investigated
the experience of the young adults with diabetes during the transition process. The prevalence of
diabetes in the youth is a concern, especially because the youth tend to have severe disease
which requires an early onset of insulin. Children and the youth also tend to experience more
micro and macrovascular complications when compared to adults and may also experience
higher mortality.
Diabetes in children and youth is a public health burden. Diabetes is a chronic disease
that requires lifelong insulin injections, diet modifications, and behavior changes. Some adults
can adapt their lifestyle to self-care management of diabetes, children have to be taken care of
and their condition managed actively by healthcare professionals or their parents. For young
adults between 18 and 30, the transition from adolescence to young adulthood is usually marked
by turbulence and transitions (Agarwal et al., 2018; Iversen et al., 2019; Spaic et al., 2019).
These studies conducted by Agarwal et al., 2018, Iversen et al., 2019, and Spaic et al.,
2019 seeks to investigate the literature on the current practice for managing the transition of
diabetes management from childhood to adulthood. Diabetes self-management presents a serious
