This paper is divided into three sections:
Section A Listening 35 marks
Section B Translation 10 marks
Section C Multi-skill task 30 marks.

You may play back the listening material as many times as you wish.
You are, however, advised to allocate your time as follows:

Translation and Multi-skill task 1 hour 45 minutes approximately.

conversations) and understanding the main points. Focus on identifying key ideas, specific details, and
implied meanings.
Listening for Specific Information: Pay attention to numbers, dates, names, or specific facts
mentioned in the listening material.
Context and Tone: Understand the context in which the conversation or speech is taking place and
the tone used. Recognize formal vs. informal language, or serious vs. casual tones.
2. Reading Comprehension:
Identify Main Ideas: Practice reading a variety of Panjabi texts (articles, stories, essays,
advertisements) and identifying the main themes and arguments.
Detailed Understanding: Read for detailed information, such as facts, dates, or character
descriptions. Be prepared to answer questions about specific details from the text.
Inference: Understand how to infer meanings from the text, such as the writer’s attitude, the tone of
the passage, or the message being conveyed.
Vocabulary: Focus on understanding unfamiliar words or phrases in context. Develop the ability to
deduce meaning from context and work on expanding your Panjabi vocabulary.
3. Writing Skills:
Essay Writing: Prepare for tasks that require you to write coherent essays on given topics. Follow a
clear structure (introduction, body, conclusion), and ensure that your argument is logically developed.
Creative Writing: Practice writing creative content such as stories or descriptions. Use a variety of
language and stylistic techniques (e.g., imagery, metaphors, dialogue) to engage the reader.
Formal and Informal Writing: Be able to write both formal (letters, reports) and informal (emails,
personal notes) texts, with an appropriate tone and structure.
4. Translation:
Translate Accurately: Work on translating short passages from Panjabi to English and vice versa.
Focus on maintaining the meaning and tone of the original text while being mindful of grammar and
syntax in both languages.
Cultural Nuances: Be aware of cultural differences in idiomatic expressions or phrases when
translating. Ensure that the translation reflects both the language and cultural context.
5. Key Grammar Points:
Verb Conjugation: Practice conjugating regular and irregular verbs in various tenses (past, present,
future) and across different persons (I, you, he/she).
Noun-Adjective Agreement: Pay attention to the agreement between nouns and adjectives in terms
of gender (masculine/feminine) and number (singular/plural).
6. Cultural Context:
Cultural Knowledge: Develop an understanding of key cultural, historical, and social themes that may
appear in the listening or reading passages (e.g., festivals, traditions, historical events).
Understanding of Regional Dialects: Be aware of different dialects or variations of Panjabi used in
different regions, as this may be reflected in the listening material.
