Older adults living in nursing homes are more prone to fall incidents that bring negative impacts and reduced
health state in their lives. Citing the CDC, it is approximated that between 50 percent and 75 percent of
nursing home residents experience falls yearly. The increase in falls with higher levels of injury to residents is
not only an undesirable outcome for everyone in the long-term care community, including the facility
personnel, the hospital community of which the LTC facility is a part, the affected resident(s), and their family
members. Concerns of the facility having fall accidents, which caused severe harm to the residents, mean
that the residents have to be transferred to the acute care hospital. This leads to discomfort for the residents,

rating. According to the CDC, the medical costs of falls in 2015 were nearly $50 billion. These costs were
equally met by Medicare and Medicaid financing, which accounted for 75% of all the expenses. Considering
the nursing profession's focus and commitment to patient safety and the potential harm no of harm,' there is
a critical need to advance patient safety in nursing by developing patient fall prevention systems. The goal is
to decrease the number of falls and the rate of falls leading to significant injuries.
