Slide 2: Description

• Information System: EPIC Stork EHR
• Type: Clinical Information System
• Purpose: To manage electronic health records (EHR)
specifically for maternity care, supporting clinical
documentation, patient tracking, and decision support.

Information System Name: EPIC STORK
Type: Clinical Information System
Purpose: The EPIC STORK system is designed specifically for
managing electronic health records (EHR) within maternal healthcare
settings. Its primary purpose is to streamline clinical workflows
related to obstetric care by providing comprehensive tools for
documentation, patient monitoring, and data management. EPIC
STORK supports healthcare professionals in efficiently documenting
patient interactions, tracking clinical progress, and making informed
decisions based on real-time patient data. It enhances patient safety
through integrated decision support features, standardizes clinical
practices, and ultimately aims to improve maternal and neonatal
outcomes by ensuring high-quality, timely, and personalized care for
patients in labor and delivery.

This clinical information system facilitates effective communication
between care teams, optimizes resource use, and enhances the
overall patient experience by providing mothers with access to their
health information and educational resources.

, Slide 3: Workflow and Outcomes

• Impact on Workflow:
o Streamlines patient admission, documentation, and
discharge processes.
o Automates routine tasks for nursing staff, allowing more
time for patient care.

Impact on Workflow

EPIC STORK, when integrated with Centricity fetal monitoring,
significantly enhances clinical workflow in maternity care settings
through the following mechanisms:

1. Streamlined Data Entry:
o Clinicians can document patient assessments directly into
the EHR while monitoring fetal heart rates and other vital
signs in real time. This integration minimizes the need for
redundant data entry and reduces the risk of errors.
2. Real-Time Monitoring:
o The Centricity fetal monitoring system continuously
tracks fetal heart rates and uterine contractions, allowing
healthcare providers to respond immediately to any
concerning changes. This real-time data availability
supports rapid clinical decision- making.
3. Automated Alerts:
o EPIC STORK can generate alerts based on fetal
monitoring data, notifying clinicians of abnormal patterns
that require prompt attention. This feature enhances
communication within the care team and helps prevent
potential complications through timely intervention.
4. Workflow Coordination:
o The integration fosters better collaboration among
healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, nurses,
and anesthesiologists, by ensuring everyone has access
to the same up-to-date patient information. This
coordination improves the efficiency of care delivery
during labor and delivery.
5. Streamlined Discharge Planning:
o By documenting all aspects of patient care within EPIC
STORK, discharge planning is simplified. Clinicians can
easily generate discharge summaries and care plans,
leading to more efficient transitions of care.
