Leadership and Role Development for Advanced Nursing

Nursing is a career path that provides a wide range of opportunities. Bedside nursing,

executive nursing, and nursing leadership are a few career goals that can explored. From

experience, nursing leadership has been the most rewarding. As a nurse leader, you are provided

with the opportunity to initiate change, implement innovation, and help grow new nurses. With

the current nursing shortage, nurse leaders must be ever-present to keep the nursing profession

provided the opportunity to work in pediatrics for three years. While I enjoyed this role I began

to feel like I had more to offer in my profession. I began to seek new opportunities and landed a

role as an infusion nurse where I soon became a preceptor for new nurses and then promoted to a

nurse supervisor. I found that being a leader provided a level of strength and critical thinking I

didn’t know I had in me. As a leader, I lead my team the way I would like to be led. I provided

my team with open communication, honesty, transparency, constructive but positive feedback,

motivation, and most importantly active listening.

My leadership style was effective because I never treated my team like they were beneath

me just because I was a supervisor. I included my team in all decisions. I believe my leadership

style provided great comfort within my team which allowed us to work well as a team. In all
